If they have the money and the gumption to endure hours of discomfort, women who want to save their hair during chemotherapy have the option of using a cold cap to save their hair follicles from absorbing the chemotherapy drugs. The article depicts one woman’s experience and her motivation for using the cap being more about control over cancer than it is about saving her hair. Click photo for story.

A friend of mine introduced me to a social networking site that is exclusively for stylists and fashion enthusiasts. It’s a great place for stylists to network, share their ideas and learn from each other. There are tutorial videos, photos from fashion shoots, announcements and information about industry events; local groups, blogs and discussion boards that feature stylist inspiration, Q&As about color formulating, product & tool reviews, and general advice on industry related topics.

So far, I’m totally digging it.

I read Sassoon’s autobiography when I was in beauty school and it was incredibly inspiring to me as a student of hair. Now there is a movie about his life and I am excited beyond words… Hopefully coming to a movie theater near me very soon: Vidal Sassoon The Movie.

I found this one particularly interesting because the stylist uses two techniques that are (at this point in my hair experience) intimidating to me: razor cutting and the “twist & crop” texturizing technique. Plus, it is done to a cover of XTC’s Making Plans For Nigel by Nouvelle Vague; a departure from the typical techno club music that accompanies most haircutting videos.

A brief article on how big hair has been the preferred hairdo of powerful women throughout the centuries.  It also states that the return of the bouffant can be linked to the economy:
