Haircutting Videos
April 23, 2010
I started watching haircutting demonstration videos on YouTube and now I can’t stop.
I found this one particularly interesting because the stylist uses two techniques that are (at this point in my hair experience) intimidating to me: razor cutting and the “twist & crop” texturizing technique. Plus, it is done to a cover of XTC’s Making Plans For Nigel by Nouvelle Vague; a departure from the typical techno club music that accompanies most haircutting videos.

That was awesome! I had no idea how meticulous a process is required to get that messy texturized look. It’s sort of mesmerizing–the soundtrack helps.
I think the last person who cut my hair did the twist and crop texturing thing–it looks like the person is ruining your hair when they are doing it. I was like, “Can you stop scraping my hair up with your scissors? It’s going to look like a shag rug with split ends.” Of course it does not ruin your hair at all.
I found the cutest haircut in a 1970s super-8 instruction manual. Ironically, it’s the Louise Brooks bob except with lots of volume. I’ll see if I can scan it and send it to you.
